Amy Studebaker, Owner and Principal Designer of Amy Studebaker Design, is recognized for her signature award-winning style, which blends new and antique décor to create homes that are fresh, inviting, and functional. Whether it’s a new construction, or an existing renovation, Amy collaborates closely with her clients to create warm and layered interiors that can stand the test of time.

Since founding her design firm in 2010, Amy has taken on large scale residential projects for families across the United States, and has been featured in leading publications such as Southern Living, Martha Stewart, The Cottage Journal and Forbes. She is also the recipient of HGTV’s Editors’ “Faces of Design” Award, and recently created the most enchanting guest bedroom; “Primrose Park”, at the 2023 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach…a garden oasis filled with playful patterns, timeless textures, and swathed in Soane’s Lisiuex Rose blossoming chintz pattern!

We couldn’t be more delighted to sit down with Amy, whose style we adore, to talk about all things design, from favorite interiors to wallpaper patterns, and what living beautifully means to her.

Where did you grow up and how has your past shaped your design aesthetic?

I grew up St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by aunts who loved the field of design and always encouraged my love of architecture, furniture and decorative objects.

How would you describe your style?

My personal design style is traditional with a fresh touch of rich colors, wonderful patterns, and mix of old and new.

Who are some of your style icons?

I have always adored Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. There was such a sense of elegance about them.

How did you start your company and what do you love most about what you do?

I began Amy Studebaker Design in my late 20’s and started with one wonderful client who had faith in me and let me create a wonderful space for their family. From there we just gained one client after another. Being surrounded by beautiful objects (furniture, textiles, antiques, etc…) and bringing them together to create beautiful yet functional spaces is one of my favorite parts of the job.

Where do you turn to for inspiration when you begin a new project?

Depending on where the project is located, I love drawing inspiration from the history of the location as well as its surrounding architecture.

What would your dream project be?

A historical residence that we are able to bring back to life through fresh lens all while honouring its traditional qualities.

Which decorators from the past do you most often turn to for inspiration?

I’ve always admired Dorothy Draper’s bold designs. Her use of color and pattern is just fabulous.

If you could invite any three individuals from the past, who would they be and what would you serve for dinner?

The Queen of England, Cary Grant, and Audrey Hepburn. I don’t really cook so I would need to leave the menu up to a professional but whatever Cary Grant’s favorite dish is, I am all for it!

What are some of your indispensable items when entertaining and how do you ensure a memorable dinner party?

Setting a welcoming table with wonderful flowers and mix and matching dishware. I always want the table to feel comfortable for a relaxing and enjoyable evening.

What does living beautifully mean to you?

Feeling genuinely at home and comfortable in your space surrounded by things that have meaning to you.

How do you make every day feel special in your home?

As silly as it sounds, I have multiple sitting rooms in my home, and I enjoy different ones depending on how I feel that day. If the weather is warm, I usually find myself on my porch. If its colder or raining I am usually in my upstairs guest sitting room taking cover under all the moody colors. Being able to enjoy each space of my home truly makes every day special in its own way.

What is your typical morning routine?

I like waking up early to enjoy the spring morning light that is beginning to take place, I will work out, or go to the sauna, or just take advantage of the extra time. Then its off to carpool by 8:20am and then to the studio by 9:00am.

How do you like to unwind after a busy day?

I love taking a warm bath or if it is a beautiful day I will sit on my porch as the sun goes down.

What do you love most about living in Missouri?

I love that it is a family-oriented town, rich in history! There are so many wonderful activities for children, and my family is located here.

While traveling, are there any objects you enjoy collecting?

I know this is a quirky one, however I love collecting hotel key cards. It reminds me of all the places I have visited!

What is at the top of your bucket list?

Traveling to Europe with my family. I cannot wait to share the wonderful experiences of Europe with my nine-year-old son.

What are some of the greatest lessons you learned from your parents?

My mother taught me to be adventurous, playful, and to have a strong work ethic.

What can we expect to see from Amy Studebaker Design in the near future?

I would love to write a book so that is hopefully something you might see one day.
